I’ve passed the Dalwhinnie Distillery so many times, and only once did I actually stop there to visit the distillery. But to find out that there were no tours that day due to maintenance. So I took some photos and continued my route. Than I received this sample of the Dalwhinnie Distillery Exclusive and it reminded me again that I really have to visit Dalwhinnie the next time I ‘m in Scotland. So that’s on my to-do list!

This Dalwhinnie has no age statement and is bottled at 48% ABV.

Dalwhinnie Distillery Exclusive  tasting notes:

N0se: Pineapple quite expressive with a layer of honey and some oranges. Followed by red apples, a whiff of tobacco and then a typical bourbon cask smell. Quite a big sweetness.

Taste: A lot less fruity, honey and milk chocolate. Loosely whipped cream. A little bit of spices and chili peppers. Very sweet and a touch of tobacco in the taste as well.

Finish: The finish is mid-long, with some mouth coating honey. The spices are fading and then sweetness is taking over. Kind of reminds me of the sweet banana candies (but missing the banana flavour if that makes any sense).

I remember Dalwhinnie as an easy to drink whisky. This is a bit different then what I remember. It is still easy to drink but the spices are more dominant, which makes it a little less smooth. A nice dram, but not more than that.

A big thanks to Jason from Whiskyrover for this sample and the photo!
