After a great Highland Park and Mortlach, it is now the turn to a Glentauchers 1989. All these bottles were bought during the warehouse tasting of Cadenhead in Campbeltown. A great experience, which I can recommend to anyone! Perhaps even the best tasting I’ve ever had.

The concept of the tasting is simple. As the name already suggests, this tasting is held in the warehouse. You will taste some whiskies straight from the cask, and afterwards you have the opportunity to buy these whiskies as well. And are therefore only available to those who actually participate in this tasting.

This Glentauchers has matured in a hogshead for 29 years and is bottled at 52,9% ABV.

Glentauchers 1989 tasting notes:

Nose: Great fruity nose! Honey glazed peaches and apricots. A bit floral, followed by marzipan and caramel with a tiny bit of wood. Baked apples and some other stewed fruits, like pears and apricots can be find here too.

Taste: Fruity and sweet! Again honey, apricots, a faint hint of menthol and some floral aspects. A touch of oak but it really works here. It’s perfectly mixed with the sweet fruits. With water I get some kiwi’s in there as well.

Finish: Good finish here, apples and again the stewed fruits.

Now this is quite interesting.. I like this a lot, but I find it hard to describe the different flavours. They aren’t distinctive enough for me to define them. It may be that I am not trained enough. 😉 But we shouldn’t over analyze this anyway. It’s a very good dram and I am glad I purchased a bottle!

The hand-filled bottles of Aberlour are very popular. They are not too expensive (£ 70,-), especially not if…
