It has been a while since I reviewed some older bottles on my website. So I thought it would be nice to pick that up again in the coming weeks. The first one I’m going to start with is this Glenlochy, which was bottled in 1987.

If you thought Ben Nevis was the only distillery in Fort William, then you are wrong. It may be the only survivor, but Glenlochy was also situated in Fort William. Although this distillery closed its doors in 1983. It is a relatively unknown brand, and during its life years, no single malt was released. In fact, very few bottles can be found.  So don’t expect to find a lot of reviews of Glenlochy here in the near future. 😉

This Glenlochy was distilled in 1974 and bottled at a hefty 67.3% ABV.

Glenlochy 13-year-old tasting notes:

Nose: Oranges and plenty of it. Green apple peels. Nailpolish remover. Pencil shavings. Then lemons and candle wax. After letting it stand for a while it gets some tropical fruits as well. Unripe bananas. Water: More tropical. Kiwi.

Taste: Lemon and oranges again. Apples. And then it gets a bit herbal, Coriander, nutmeg and anise. There’s a hint of pastis too.

Finish: Long! Mostly with coriander and lemons.

Ahh yes, this is old-style whisky. The spirit has clearly had more influence here than the barrel, but it is oh so good. It needs water though, and plenty of it!
