Today on the menu: a Deanston 2012, which was bottled especially for Whisky Tasting Festival Utrecht 2023!

This festival is one of the nicest and most enjoyable whisky festivals in the Netherlands. Not only does it look cool, as it is held annually in the Werkspoor Kathedraal, a beautiful old factory hall, but the festival also has a surprisingly spacious layout, making it very easy to shuffle past the stands anywhere. The range of whisky is vast, but other drinks and cocktails are also available. There is something for everyone, whether you are a novice (whisky) drinker or have been around for many years.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there this year because, as most of you know by now, I was busy with the final stages of my training. However, I did receive a sample of the festival bottling that you can order via the site, but it will soon also be for sale at a few liquor stores in the Netherlands.

This Deanston has matured for 10 years and is bottled at a strength of 51% ABV.

Deanston 2012 tasting notes:

Nose: Apple compote at first. Then a lovely waxy note, which is followed by oatmeal porridge and a hint of freshly baked bread. Lemons and back to apples, but fresh apples this time. Bananas and vanilla as well.

Taste: A lovely creamy mouthfeel. The porridge is back, and so is the vanilla and wax. A hint of pears and green apples. Some lemons as well. Caramel toffee. Followed by aniseed, and a touch of white pepper.

Finish: Long. Caramel toffee and a note of vanilla. Lemons and minerals. A hint of the white pepper and aniseed as well.

A fairly straightforward single malt, which delivers from start to finish. Very pleasant and right up my alley! The price for this Deanston? €75. A good price and one I will definitely buy myself. Kudos to the WTF team for selecting this bottle!
