Tasting notes: Glenlivet Cipher

The new Glenlivet Cipher is covered in darkness. Nothing is known about this whisky! No age, no cask information, no tasting notes, no nothing! And that’s exactly what The Glenlivet wants, they call it themselves “the world’s most mysterious whisky.” According to The Glenlivet it is the intention that you are going to explore the whisky all by yourself and than decode it. A big marketing ploy, of course, but it has triggered me! Yeah, as curious as I am and a sucker for good stories , I went looking for a sample. I had to try it.. And so it happened.

This Glenlivet is bottled at 48% ABV. (That’s all I know!)

The Glenlivet Cipher tasting notes:

Nose: Fruity at first, pineapple juice and even a bit waxy? Vanilla. Ginger in the background. After that it becomes sweeter, caramel en butterscotch. A little nutty as well, I think almonds.

Taste: Some sweetness from honey, a bit fruity but a little less than in the fragrance. It is creamy, almond milk. And a bit spicy, cinnamon and white pepper.

Finish: The finish is mid-long and creamy. Some spices are there and ginger too. It’s a bit dry at the end.

This is one of the better Glenlivet whiskies in years for me. It is not super impressive, but the taste is very good! It is definitely not your average Glenlivet, a lot more spicy too. And that really surprised me. It’s a pity that it is so expensive, a little overpriced if you ask me..
