Today is St. Patrick’s Day, but it probably won’t really feel that way for the Irish and everyone else who normally celebrates it. Thanks to the Coronavirus, all pubs and restaurants are also closed there and the planned parades will not take place. A very strange situation, but this is what is going on in the world at the moment. There’s a pandemic and Covid-19 is slowly taking over our entire daily lives.
Here in the Netherlands, we are expected to stay indoors, avoid social contacts and work from home. Here too all schools, restaurants, bars and many other companies are closed. Events of up to 100 people have been cancelled. Hoping to keep it under control, because it is no longer possible to contain the virus. It are crazy and scary times but despite all this, I try to continue with my normal daily life as far as possible. Because I think that is the right thing to do. And although it doesn’t feel festive at all this St. Patrick’s Day, I will still continue my week with Irish Whiskey reviews. Stay safe everyone!
This Teeling has matured in bourbon and sauternes casks and is bottled at 46% ABV.
Teeling 24-year-old tasting notes:
Nose: Ohhh very nice! Fruit bomb galore! Red apples. I also get some red fruit, like strawberries and a hint of raspberries. There’s a tropical element, with pineapple glazed with honey. Nectarines.
Taste: Even fruitier! Pineapple again. Followed by a fair amount of yellow bananas. Nectarines here too. A lovely honey note and I do get some smoke. Really really good.
Finish: Long. fruity. Tropical. A trace of smoke still, but in the very background.
Oh, this is the good stuff, very very tasty. I love the tropical fruit element in this one and the trace of smoke works very well here.
